If you have lived in Florida for any period of time, you know that our roads are dangerous. First you need to watch for debris. Not just on the road, but flying out of the back of trucks. Then there are the people who drive, but can’t read English. They don’t understand the signs and drive like they own the road. Next, you need to watch out for the people who use the roads as walkways. They just strut along as if they are on a country road while we drive 60MPH past them. They think I-95 is the same as the road in front of their house. Lastly, there is the fact that we have no inspections. At one time we had car inspections and you could get a traffic ticket if your car was not up to snuff. That program only lasted about five years and now we have no car inspections in Florida. This means that you can drive any piece of garbage on the road, regardless of its safety. But none of this compares to the actual drivers we have in Florida. South Florida, Miami actually, has the worst drivers in the entire country. This Blog is just full of fun facts about our drivers and their cars.
- AREA CODE 305 IS #1 IN THE COUNTRY IN CAR FATALITIES AND ROAD RAGE.
305 is the largest exchange for our Miami-Dade county telephone numbers. Most people prior to about 3 years ago all had 305 if they lived in Miami-Dade County. No wonder Miami is also number one for the amount of traffic tickets given out to drivers.
- HIALEAH IS NUMBER ONE IN THE COUNTRY FOR HITTING PEDESTRIANS WITH THEIR CARS.
If you live in Hialeah, watch out. You have a 70% higher chance of getting hit by a car than the national average. A dubious note, but scary. If you ever tried to drive or walk in Hialeah, you know this to be true.
- IN 2012, MIAMI DADE WAS NUMBER ONE IN THE COUNTRY FOR HIT AND RUNS
The average day in Miami Dade has about 35 people being hit by cars that left the scene. That is about 13,000 a year in Miami alone. This is crazy considering that leaving the scene of an accident with injuries is a felony. But as we all know, in South Florida, anything goes.
- FLORIDA WAS THE 44TH STATE TO MAKE TEXTING AND DRIVING A TRAFFIC VIOLATION.
Only this year did the State of Florida pass a law banning texting and driving. The problem is that it is a secondary offense. That means that the police can not pull you over for texting even if they see you doing it, unless you are breaking some other law. In other words, if you are speeding and the cop pulls you over, he can also give you a ticket for texting and driving. It is only $30 and it does not carry points. Thus, it is a almost useless law. Hopefully, next year the legislature will put some teeth in this weak law.
The only good news in all of this is in the area of traffic ticket defense. We have handled over 1,000,000 traffic tickets, the majority in Miami. We have great success in fighting traffic tickets in Miami Dade County. In fact 99% of our Miami clients do not get points or driving school. Thus, if you get a ticket, call us before you do anything. Ask for your free consultation and have your questions answered.
