305 is the largest exchange for our Miami-Dade county telephone numbers. Most people prior to about 3 years ago all had 305 if they lived in Miami-Dade County. No wonder Miami is also number one for the amount of traffic tickets given out to drivers.

• HIALEAH IS NUMBER ONE IN THE COUNTRY FOR HITTING PEDESTRIANS WITH THEIR CARS.

If you live in Hialeah, watch out. You have a 70% higher chance of getting hit by a car than the national average. A dubious note, but scary. If you ever tried to drive or walk in Hialeah, you know this to be true.

•  IN 2012, MIAMI DADE WAS NUMBER ONE IN THE COUNTRY FOR HIT AND RUNS

The average day in Miami Dade has about 35 people being hit by cars that left the scene. That is about 13,000 a year in Miami alone. This is crazy considering that leaving the scene of an accident with injuries is a felony. But as we all know, in South Florida, anything goes.

• FLORIDA WAS THE 44TH STATE TO MAKE TEXTING AND DRIVING A TRAFFIC VIOLATION.

Only this year did the State of Florida pass a law banning texting and driving. The problem is that it is a secondary offense. That means that the police can not pull you over for texting even if they see you doing it, unless you are breaking some other law. In other words, if you are speeding and the cop pulls you over, he can also give you a ticket for texting and driving. It is only $30 and it does not carry points. Thus, it is a almost useless law. Hopefully, next year the legislature will put some teeth in this weak law.
